how do you get an alexa ranking

Is your site new? It takes a week or so for Alexa to pick up on your site. And then you have to have some traffic so that you get on their radar.

My site is about a month old, I only have a little traffic so I'll just have to wait.

ALEXA ratings are OVER-RATED. I had a SBI site with 10 pages and made it to the top 3% of sites simply by posting in the SBI forum.

Everyone in the SBI forum is encouraged to get the Alexa toolbar. Now everyone in that forum that checks your site increases you Alexa polularity.

SBI is loaded with nebies looking for information. So posting there gets you lots of page views PLUS a high Alexa ranking, regardless of quality or anything else about your site.

SBI capitalizes on this by show how SBI sites are in the top 3% of all sites on the internet.

thanks for the useful info, i'll look into it. I did get an Alexa Ranking yesterday and I'm at 2.8 million, got a long way to go . . .

What is the benefit of an alexa ranking? This is the first I've even heard of it today. I checked and several of my sites and they are near the top but Alexa doesn't even crack the top 30 in my web logs in terms of getting referals.

By the way, if it's the first time I've heard of it I'm sure that a novice is never going to use this to find my site.

OK, I am getting back to visiting various forums for information and inspiration.

My SBI site is the same as it was 6 months ago. I haven't worked on it at all.

My Alexa rating went from the top 3% to NOT FOUND at all.......the site was in the index, but so many millions down it wasn't rated.

After about a month of posting in the SBI forum I now have a site that is rated 920,000. That is an amazing increase in value...........to a site whose value hasn't changed.

So, "what is the benefit of an alexa ranking"? Beat me!
