In my office, I have a motivational poster. Actually, it is a DE-motivator that I purchased from Despair.com. I love their stuff.. they produce hysterical parody's of the popular inspirational posters that you see in corporate settings.
Want to see the poster on my wall?
http://us.st5.yimg.com/store1.yimg.com/I/demotivators_1871_314716
Why did I buy this AND have it framed?
1) It makes me laugh.
2) It reminds me that while success is possible for everyone, only a minority actually do what needs to be done in order to achieve it.
You CAN succeed! Like the Nike commercial says, "Just do it". Take steps today to learn from others who are succeeding. Read books by people who are successful. Get your hands on the best materials you can find. Don't try to "cheap" your way around success. Just like anything worth having, it takes an investment of time, money and talents. Invest in yourself! Find a mentor who can help you get to where you want to be. Commit to being your VERY best each and every day!
And remember, there are always those who will find it easier to ask...
"Would you like fries with that?"
Live life today!

I love these posters too.
So much more fun and clever than the "real" motivational posters.

Joel,
That's a great poster... and you're right - Despair.com really puts a great spin on things.
And, you're right once again -
You CAN succeed! Like the Nike commercial says, "Just do it". Take steps today to learn from others who are succeeding. Read books by people who are successful. Get your hands on the best materials you can find.
Your advice has been a huge motivator to me, as well as thousands of others. Thank-you.
I have this one hanging on my wall:

"Some people Succeed because they are Destined to,
but most people Succeed because they are Determined to!"
It kind of sums up my thoughts on what it takes...
I also like this one very much... one of my favorite authors: ;)

"True success is not based on your financial statement.
It is determined by how you live your life. Go live it well today!"

ROFL, I love despair.com. My friends boss bought some calendars and gets some really great customer emails.
This is still one of my favorites:

I've had a link on my personal site to Despair for a few years now. They are one of the true "finds" that I've stumbled across over the years. Such a great counter-balance to all the fluffy "you can do it...you really can!!" speech. I am all for encouragement and motivation...but sometimes it just gets out of control.
Other great sites I've found over the years:
http://imdb.com/
The Internet Movie Database
An absolutely KILLER place to solve this problem: "I just KNOW I know that guy playing that role!! Where have I seen him before??"
http://m-w.com/
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
Not only do I use it to look up definitions, but more often pronunciations. They provide you with a little speaker icon to click on to hear the word spoken. Others have started to do this, too...but I've been using this tool for probably 3 years. Love it.

Funny and interesting news stories with very witty user-submitted headlines, and a discussion thread for each story. This is my home page for browser launch. Good stuff.

I've had a worldmap as a motivator on my wall for some years. Gives me motivation of Conquering the World!
This reminds me to find a new poster for my office.
Yes, motivational posters and positive quotes are always helpful to develop positive thinking and attitude. It reminds us constantly that we have to be always on positive side to become successful in life.
Great thought Joel...!!!

What a great poster! I have it up on my wall in My Office (http://www.vinnyohare.com/images/office.jpg) It is much better than the orange piece of paper up on the left that I have up.

NYFalcon,
I'm delighted you liked the poster design featuring Joel's powerful quote. Printing it out and putting it on your wall is so cool...
It got me thinking... perhaps others might like to have a free copy of this design for their wall. So, I made an 8"x10" pdf file (150 dpi) of this design for anybody that might like one. This size should print easily on a standard letter size piece of paper.
You can get your free copy by CLICKING HERE (http://blog-about-it.com/success.pdf).
The file size is relatively small (312 kb) so there shouldn't be any download or display problems.
Thanks again to Joel for such and inspiring Quote...
Enjoy :D
