Hi All,

Thanks Joel for providing this vehicle for sharing ideas for advancing our earning potential. I have an idea about Adsense that I think may improve our collective click through rates.

At first I was going to hold back and not share it but I realized that no matter what niche/industry I chose to be in, I lose nothing by sharing this. If I have X visits per day, I will still have X visits per day even if everyone here uses this idea.

I would classify this idea as somewhat in a grey area because I am not sure if this violates any terms of the Adsense agreement, but here goes.

We have all seen those un-blockable popup windows that many sales sites have. They are created with DHTML and cannot be blocked. There are many sites that can help produce the code to make them. They range from free to paid.

The idea is to place a large adsense block prominently on your page. Then create a DHTML popup window that covers the adsense block. You can even set the transparency of the popup such that the user can see through it to the adsense ad below.

Next, place a [Close] or an [X] button on the title bar of the popup such that it is directly above the adsense block. The idea is that a certain percentage of people will accidentally click the adsense block in their attempt to close the popup.

I said this was a grey area so I know there may be opinions against it. Has anyone ever tried this? Would anyone try this? Care to share any results or opinions?

Thanks.

Glen.

Hi,
Why not try it on a page using coding provided by j.c. with affiliate links and see what happens!!!!!!

Only a suggestion

Sounds like a good way to get your account cancelled to me. From the Program Policies at https://www.google.com/adsense/policies

No Google ad or Google search box may be displayed on any domain parking websites, pop-ups, pop-unders, or in any email.
Elements on a page must not obscure any portion of the ads, and the ad colors must be such that any ad elements, including text and URL, are visible.

I'm thinking about having cartoon insects crawling around on the ads, changing the mouse pointer to a fly swatter, and inviting the user to "Swat the Bugs".

I might also put a half-transparent Whack-a-Mole game over the ads.

Think big G would mind? :D
