Hey guys,

This has probably been covered many times before so excuse the repetition!

What side of the page pulls the most clicks? Some say right hand side, others swear by left, like askthebuilder.com, all of his rectangular ads are on the left side with the text neatly running alongside it.

Is there a proven formula? I would think so considering weve narrowed down, colors, borders and size...

Thanks for any input.

I've used both sides on my few websites and found thta both brings in just about the same number of clicks, however the right side is slightly more.

It's all down to your website design.

I think it more or less a matter of watching your site stats and test, test, test...

On some of my sites, the left is better, but on others the right is better while some do well with one on the left and one on the right. One of my sites does its best only with a large header text right on the very top because too many ads are distracting and a turn off.

Make full use of your Adsense features, especially the channel part. Input as many URLs up to the limit as you want to follow. Do something to those pages unique and wait a week to see the response. Then try something different and see if the results change a week later.

Also, get input from your family, friends or even your web audience and ask them outright what they think of your site with a poll or a link to contact you. It may seem kind of weird to ask people what they think of your site, and you will get cranks, but most people love to feel as if they are helping someone.

All my test would say right side, but I run them on both

Hate to go against the grain here..:)

The majority of my clicks come from the top. My best adsense money comes from my directory traffic.

try googles adsense heat map. https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/static.py?page=tips.html&gsessionid=ii4AcA-bM-8
shows the best 'click' areas - guess they should know their stuff..

At different times, I've found that right was best and other times that left was best. Sometimes a single 336x280 block centered.

In other words, CHANGE is best at breaking the ad blindness, if you have a lot of repeat visitors.

yes i just started testing out with adsense tracker and on two first sites its the 336x280 blocks at the top of page/article the works best for me...

I tried both, and depending on the day / visitors / and whatever other factors they are both the same...

I noticed that joel uses the left on his blog site, askthebuilder, whom makes up to $1400 a day uses the left....

Truth is I think its a true mix of both ads, location, and content.....

If I'm fixing my house, or paving my driveway I'm looking to click.....

If I'm looking for a product to improve my site.... looking to click....

If I'm just reading for fun, I'm banner blinded.... so blend in the ads and get traffic, its all about the numbers.... and content

If you site is sticky.... and visitors return more likey they will click...

I don't remember where I got this from, but I thought it was kinda neat:

At least it provides more food for thought.

that is pretty cool whether or not its true.... but it does make logically sense...

do you know if this pertains to people that read magizines from back to front?
don't know why I do it..... maybe because I naturally know that all the ads are stuffed in the front....

Back to right or left.....

Quick food for thought.... a current wheel is round right? do you doubt it? whould you try and make a square tire today? I hope Not....

Learn from others.... Look at my site, look at joels sites, look at ask the builder site....

Look at high money making sites and see what they do.... and copy them...

One trick I'm trying now since I don't want to make pages with only adsense, I made my news links dark blue.... and my articles bright link blue....

Then on the article page, again nav links dark blue.... adsense ad links light blue....

I'm testing this out and it seems to be working well... Person clicks link to article (light blue) reads the article and see's "another safe light blue link" with a topic of interest they click on that one...(adsense)
