Do they allow unlimited domains?

No, they do not allow unlimited domains.

Joel, how many websites do you have hosted with them? I used to have a couple (http://www.dxcurrencies.com included) but I switched because their database and PHP system isn't that great. They have a small limit on PHP scripts that will block your site once you start receiving about 2000 visitors a day.

Have you had better luck?

I've read of people having problems with Globat in the past (what company
doesn't?). Just wondering what's your current experience with them, Joel.

One other thing you didn't mention or maybe didn't know (and I don't blame
you) is that $7.95 is pro-rated for any of their annual plans. They don't offer
monthly plans, which isn't unreasonable if they're to continue offering what
they've got.

Anyway, as long as you don't have problems using them, then their price is a
good deal.

I prefer Powweb (http://www.terryscomputertips.com/computers/powweb_hosting.php) , who let's me host my main domain and up to 6 additional domains within one hosting account.

With an "official" price of $93.24/year (avg. $7.77/month), their current "Summer Special" gives free months with purchase of 1 year's (6 months free) or 2 years' (14 months free) hosting. This brings the avarage price down to less than $5 per month. The website indicates this special expires in 6 days (August 31).

I've got domains hosted all over the place. I just started using Globat a few months ago and haven't had any problems as of yet!

Cool. I checked them out from one of the emails you sent a few months ago. They looked good, but I was happy with Powweb and re-upped with them.

I'm at the stage where multiple domians hosted together (using .htaccess to point them properly) is most price effective for me. Maybe after I break the $10/day barrier on one of my sites...

Well I can tell you a thing about hosting. I've hosted 8 sites at tons of places. It was always an issue with 1 of 2 things- services or support. I tried www.interland.com (http://www.interland.com) and have to say it was overpriced and service was not so great.
Never tried globat though.
For the last few months I've been hosting with www.dietwebhosting.com (http://www.dietwebhosting.com) and can't really complain. The tech support is pretty good, but the funny name and free trial account got me to sign up. Hosting starts at $8/month and works it way up from there to $20 or somthing. I have 7 sites hosted with dietwebhosting and 2 hosting with www.godaddy.com (http://www.godaddy.com).
Godaddy is ok on pricing, but the tech support is not so great. The big problem with godaddy is that you can't directly access your SQL server, it's a web-based interface.
Checkem out and let me know if you know something better.

You guys keep falling for these web hosts that offer the world.

Think about it, you can't possibly offer that much space and that much bandwidth and stay in business. So what happens is they limit you on other things (like resourceS) AND I guarantee if you come close to those limits, they will tell you to go elsewhere.

They make you think that you can use all that space, but do the math, the average hard drive is 120GB, even if they had 2 250GB hard drives, think about how long backups would take and hard drive recovery would take should it fail. This is your web site, pay for service and you'll be much happier.

But, their affiliate program is really why people keep pushing them.

Globat Threads at WebHostingTalk.com (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php?action=showresults&searchid=4117326&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending)

And mrl14 is right about his whole post. That's why I rarely believe reviews when they're followed by an affiliate link.

I have a site plugging website hosting, reviews etc. If you go down this route then aim for $90 commissions if you are going down the PPC route

Joel's original post mentions 10000 MB of space. That's 10GB. They probably put 20+ sites on the 120GB drive mrl14 used as an example, since few people will actually upload 10GB worth of data to their web site.

Also, many hosting companies do not back up your data for you. I have a virtual server at a web hosting company in Canada, and they're right up front with telling you that any backups are MY responsibility.

At $55/month my virtual server sounds expensive, but it became the most cost-effective way to host once I had more than 6 domains hosted with them, since I can have unlimited domains on the server. They have single-domain accounts as cheap as $25/year, but the features I use necessitated their $99/year account when I was doing single-domain accounts with them.

With 10GB of disk space, 100GB of monthly transfer, unlimited domains, PHP, MySQL, and unlimited e-mail accounts, I'm OK for awhile as far as hosting goes and it's less expensive than individual single-domain plans.

Here's the reason I left Globat. From their user agreement (http://www.globat.com/legal/index.php?content=userAgreement):

All bandwidth is measured daily and monthly bandwidth allowances are divided by the calendar days of a given month to determine the daily bandwidth allowance.

That's right -- there's a DAILY bandwith allowance. This isn't a problem for smaller sites that don't see spikes in traffic, but my site would literally be shut down because I exceeded my daily traffic numbers. Furthermore, when trying to resolve these issues when they came up, their customer service was next to useless.

I'm with DreamHost now and am far, far more satisfied.

I used Globat once and I found out that they don't have CRON jobs in the control panel. My sites require CRONs so I has to move out. Lucky they had this 30 day guarantee.

Anyone know of a web host that allows unlimited domains?

M9919

pphuong,

I don't know of "unlimited," at least not when we're talking about shared hosting, but I noticed that Brinkster's three plan levels offer 50, 100, and 200 domains, respectively, with their hosting packages. 1and1.com has similar numbers.

These aren't endorsements, though. Their prices are attractive, but there are always things in the fine print with their offerings that keep me away--not to mention what you learn when you do your homework at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ (http://www.webhostingtalk.com).

But here's an endorsement, if I may: I have all my sites and my clients' sites hosted at FluidHosting (http://www.fluidhosting.com), and even though I've seen better prices offered, I can't imagine--and have yet to experience--better support and proactive maintenance anywhere.

Anyway, do your homework in researching hosts, and believe the sub-text you find in some of the posts in this thread: you get what you pay for.
