I see another one of Joel's sites, FreeBitz.com has zero PR on Google too... I assume it's because it's just like the one mentioned above & used to harvest email addresses... Google must be coming down on "newsletter" sites is all I can think, which I don't see as a bad thing...

PR0 does not mean deindexed. I had my best Google SERP position with www.gas-mileage-tips.com when I was PR0. I'd gladly trade my PR5 for a PR0 if it got me back in the top 10!
Neither site has been deindexed from Google. I searched for "prizepot" (just the word, not the url) and the first site came out right on top. Ditto for searching for "freebitz" with the second site.
Interestingly, the first time I visited PrizePot, it gave me a newsletter signup page, but the second time I visited it gave me a blog with AdSense on it. Looks like a cookie and a redirect to me. Sometimes Google doesn't like redirects. I'm not sure that you can set a cookie in the Googlebot, either, so it may never see the blog if it only comes in through the prizepot.com page and gets the signup page every time.
As far as the signup pages go, there's not enough content on them for Google to really figure out what keywords to rank them for. The freebitz site has only 64 words on the site. Four of those words are the word "freebie" so maybe the intent was to rank highly for that keyword, but that's actually too many repetitions for so few words. Common wisdom (which may or may not be correct) is that you want your keyword to be 1%-3% of your text. Less than that and you're not going to rank very well for it. More than that and the search engines penalize you for keyword stuffing. 4/64 is 6.25%, which is probably too high for Google to be happy.

Was this a trick question? The link redirects to a LCP.

There would seem to be something unusual going on here.
If you search for www.prizepot.com, Google will tell you that it has no information for it - yet it has a PR4. So it seems like it knows the site is there but has decided as you say to 'deindex' it.
(Searching for Prizepot only will bring up an alternative site with a link to www.prizepot.com so this is not the same as being indexed.)
I have a similar situation on one of my sites but it is relatively new. It has PR3 but is not yet listed in Google.
I have came across this question before and do not quite understand what is happening in the eyes of Google search.

I have 5 sites like that, and after researching forums, I have come across an answer that may make sense. The PR rank is strictly a rank of "popularity" or how many sites link back to your site. This PR score has no influence on a banned site, in other words if Google has banned your site for some reason, the PR rank will not have any effect on the inclusion of your site. My suggestion is to submit a reclusion request with Google.

The only reason I can think of that you would call that a great site is that it's your site. It has a gimmicky look and smacks of automation. It doesn't seem very far-fetched for Google to deindex something like that.

Hi,
If the PR change it can be also because what we call the Google dance. The Google dance is when Google update is database. Sometime your PR get show 0 and sometime a very high number then few days later everything come back to the normal.
It can affect also you rank while the Google dance.
Do a quick research about Google dance on Google for more details.

Agreed there is NOTHING great about it and besides it would not rank for anything anyway even if it were indexed. It has no real content and is basicly one page. Fine for use as a PPC landing page (I GUESS though I would not use it with my money) but for SEO it just has nothing it targets anyway. As for why it is deindexed if it is I would say you cranked it out with some automated tool that google knows the footprint for and considers junk or duplicate content.

pageranking has nothing to do with search engine positions
the age factor is a very important one in SE

Hi WH,
You can download the google toolbar at http://toolbar.google.com
You will get the instructions there for seeing the page-rank, but essentially the PR indicator is a green bar on the toolbar that shows Page Rank from 1-10.
Hope this helps.

The confusion really doesn't surprise me, I think It's about time google cleaned up all the errors.

For the record I really hate those sites that are set up with a single text box at the bottom of an extremely long page. After hearing the word Adsense for the very first time it took me 3 or 4 minutes to realize what these pages had to offer.
That's my opinion...from a beginner's point of view.

Ok I'll bite, why is it a great site? It looks like a simple squeeze page.. I was under the impression that Google like content. you are not going to find any on that site.. unless of course I'm missing something...
