I get a fair bit of 404 traffic. And I can really see it spike when I get sudden surges of traffic.
And it's not from broken or misdirected links in my site.
It is mainly due to the fact that I have this certain way I name my file names. It has the subject name as the filename, followed by a sequential number. So people will put the next higher number after it to see what's there. For most it works, they'll find another 'article'. But after 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 I don't actually have an article there... yet.
So it defaults as a 404 error.
That's my theory anyway. And from 5+ years of experience it's pretty much proven itself often as that being the case.
So I'm looking for a good 404 traffic program. Or even a pay-per-click program that doesn't mind 404 traffic.
