Google PR and indexing

I have a couple of sites that show a PR of 3 on the Google toolbar, but when I do a search to see how many pages are indexed I get zero - how can there be no pages indexed and still get a PR??

This is probably a pretty dumb question but I need to know the answer please.

I thought my site(s) had been indexed by Google but when I went to the google sitemaps section there was only 1 listed there.

How do I tell if my sites have been indexed by Google please?

If you type in site:yourdomainname.com into Google, you will see if there are any pages there.

Do you have any backlinks into your site from higher pr sites? If so, it could be showing an expected pr.

Google is all screwy at the moment and no one really knows what the hell is going on.

As for getting PR before being indexed by google. well if I had to guess I'd say that the Google toolbar recognises the links that are linking your site and have made an estimate of your page's PR. I'm pretty sure, though not certain, that the PR that appears in your Google Toolbar isn't an accurate or up to date repflection of your site's actual PR.

That said I wouldn't worry too much, Google has been clearly all over the place in terms of indexing and ranking sites over the last six to twelve months which has lead people to believe in the phenomenon called the sandbox, which I personally don't believe exists but at the same time I don't know what is going on either, I think most people are really just waiting for the next major updates Google will most likely be employing in the near future, which if I had to guess when it would occur I'd be guessing late July early August.

Google has over 35 datacentes based around the world it depends which datacenter is sending you the information as they update at different times I have experianced sometimes a few months difference

One of my sites had a pr of three on 27 of googles data centers for three months yet the other 7 showed zero so sometimes I'd get I had a pr of three other times it appeared to be zero.

I use googles beta sitemaps to see exactly what pages googlebot has indexed and I get different results from here too

Sometimes it has as high has 29 pages indexed and then others it shows 12 I suspect this is for a similar reason to do with the different datacenters

A very interesting thing I noticed with one of my sites my homepage has pr three and so do most the pages over a month old , My home pages shows 176 links via goolge yet the others have only 1 or two links and they are all internal.
