"WHAT IS SECTION TARGETING AND HOW DO I IMPLEMENT IT?"

Section targeting allows you to suggest sections of your text and HTML content that you'd like Google to emphasize or downplay when matching ads to your site's content. By providing Google with your suggestions, you can assist them in improving your ad targeting. They recommend that only those familiar with HTML attempt to implement section targeting.

To implement section targeting, you'll need to add a set of special HTML comment tags to your code. These tags will mark the beginning and end of whichever section(s) you'd like to emphasize or de-emphasize for ad targeting.

I've had a couple sites that have had a rough time pulling relevant Adsense ads. I tightened the copy a bit...no effect.

And I changed the page format from .html to .php... as that's been known to jog things a bit sometimes. Still nothing.

I discovered section targeting a few days back and put the code in place. Still waiting, though, for Google to come out to play.

As the webmaster of a number of sites for kids...it would be really nice if Google (and other advertisers) would make a "kids safe only" ads category. I've seen some really inappropriate stuff come up on ads on my sites. I use the competitive ad filter to disable some of them. But that doesn't mean the ads that display are a lot better or more relevant.

It would be great if you could choose a category code to help Google figure out what your site is about. Of course, this could probably be manipulated. But... a system that would carry at lease SOME weight would still be helpful.
