What way do you think is the most efficieint way to attract visitors to a new site, if you don't want to use PPC?
I've heard that you can write articles, write in forums or use JV. Any other ideas, or which works best?

LOL... well I genearlly use that traffic from my already established sites to feed into my new sites. Alternatively you good looking for blogs related to the topic and ask them to link you - is good for getting a bit of traffic and back links.
But generally I just develop a few links and wait my good friend MSN to pick me up and then I optimise off those results for awhile till Yahoo and Google pick me up and start indexing and ranking my pages.

Hi,
I find this very effective.
Visit http://www.imnewswatch.com/ and at the left hand bottom you will find links for Submit News, Submit Press Release, Submit New Content, Submit New Product.
Write the quality topics yourself and publish it here for free.
Get tons of traffic here.
Thanks,
Jaykay

Good SERPs attract visitors very effectively. Geeting position #1 in Google is a real dream for all AdSense sites.
BUT
Some will need to spend money on it, others just have good search engine karma.

Create "GREAT" content in your industry which peoples would love to read and share...
That’s all...
Major search engines like Google will send you traffic without your permission!
If not spit to this post :p

And crack your brain a little on where to find the first group of people who will read it and share. Not to get into the trap, try niche forums, also approach your niche majors offering them to use your content in exchange for a link to you.

As I said earlier, your first group of peoples will come from SE's...
Don't create "Adsense Site"... create "site for users"
You'll not make money from "Adsense Site" ... you will make money from "Site with Adsense!"
For example see http://worldvillage.com this site was intially created for users... and now it's monetised from Adsese... that's why Joel make $20K $30K etc.
My own example http://info-diet.com :)
... I don't make $20k anyway
Have a funtastic day :P

Not disputing with the general idea that you've said as it is very sound, must comment on the quoted part.
You see, it's not that easy to get the first group of people coming from SEs. Especially if the competition in this niche is tough. If a brand new site gets top in a tough niche this is because... (1) on top of good content this site is very good at SEO (2) this site got nice publicity (can be press releases, JV promos, whatever). Or these two factors combined.
That is why I think the easier way to start the rumor about your site going is to share it in the *small pond* - your niche.
Plus, would be great if you make any encouragement mechanism for the people to spread the rumor. It's great when they do word of a mouth, but if they get at least somehow rewarded for that - they really feel cared about. And many people love to be cared about.

Thank you all for a lot of good ideas!
I always write content for people, so I'm on the right way :-)
Now perhaps one of my problems is that I'm writing for a niche ... in Denmark, which is such a small country that it's a niche in itself ;-) This is why I'm trying new playgrounds and write in sort-of-English on a blog about France.
So perhaps I should find some broader subjects also for the Danish marked. One of my friend has such sites. I told him to buy Joel's book, which he did -- and he came from almost nothing to almost 1000$ a month in no time (two months I think).
I'm not sure I'm content with my CTR, but as we cannot diskuss that here, there's no way to compare :-(

Informational posting on the forums and submitting to free directories while having quality contents in your website, can drive you quality traffic..
