Hi,
I was getting advice from somewhere that I should not put up adsense ads on a new site until it has been around for a month or more, to make sure Google bots has time to find and index it. The idea was that Google could view brand new sites with Adsense with suspicion and may keep it in the sandbox for much longer.
I wonder if this is really true or just speculation. Has anyone got any different view on that?

I have read it is speculation
Joel knows his stuff on Adsense
This is a new forum on a new domain, and has adsense. I think that shows the truth (or lack of) of the speculation.

Yes, it is...
Please make sure that your sites start getting indexed 10+ pages,
I think it's o.k. you can put adsense on it.

And what would the logic be for that? Are new sites not allowed to make money?
I put the ads on when I create the site, since the ads are part of the page design, which I don't want to have to redo later. I've seen no evidence that there's any harm in doing this, but I can guarantee that pages without ads get no clicks.

Hi Tom,

That's a very good question. We all need to make good decisions.
Here are a couple of things you could do:
#1 - Evaluate the advice that you are receiving... is it from someone with credibility in this matter... does the source actually have first hand knowledge of Google's intent?
#2 - you could create two new websites - one with the AdSense ads... the other without. It's important that they offer real content for the intended visitors. I realize you may not be in a position to create and test multiple sites - but you will find that moving in that direction will be a good thing. Testing is very important. I think it's more important than advice.
or,
#3 - make a guess -
I go by the thought that if Google didn't want new websites to offer up their AdSense ads, then they would make that fact clearly known.
These are just my opinions - NOT Advice,

It's one thing if you're trying to get a site approved for Adsense (since having almost no content might make it harder to get approved)...but since you only do that with your first site...I add the code right away...and, as you mention, it's actually part of the site design...so I want to see it while I'm still building the site.
Its true that no traffic = no clicks. However, there's also a counter point. The less content you have on the site, the less likely that a visitor will find the info they want, and the higher the likelihood that the visitor will click an ad as they leave.
I don't see that as a desirable long term strategy. But it's not like you've got a lot to lose with it.
And, if you have low traffic, it's not going to hurt your stats, either...in terms of CTR, etc.

Google traffic is not the reason you might not want to put adsense on a new site. It's Yahoo traffic you do it for. I've just started testing this though so I don't know yet whether it matters or not.
I can tell you this though. I did a 5 month experiment that disproved a very common SEO theory, once again demonstrating the need to test and not rely on what others tell you.
All the best,

Interesting, since I had a new site with Adsense that got over 25,000 visitors last month. If I hadn't put the ads there I'd have lost a lot of revenue.
