View Full Version : Are reciprocal link pages considered "content" pages?

Wow... I never even considered...

I have always seen my reciprocal links pages as a true resource for my visitors. I've always considered them as content - I guess?

But, someone here on the forum (thanks Chris) commented on one of my remarks about reciprocal link directories. Chris cautioned me that reciprocal links pages might be considered as "non-content" pages... and then would not be allowed to have AdSense ads on them.

I'm so glad to have joined this forum... (and participated)... this one observation alone might have saved me from having my account cancelled for not following the AdSense TOS. Once again - thanks Chris! Extra sets of eyeballs are a good thing!

So, I decided to contact Google and politely ask them their thoughts. Obviously I will abide by whatever they decide... but I am interested in what others think.

Again, I'm not trying to convince anybody of anything... I've always seen it one way... but I could be just plain wrong!

What do you think?

You're welcome for the tip.

If there is actual content on the pages (besides the links themselves) it should be ok.

Just going back through section 5 of the TOS, I don't specifically see "Link pages" anymore, but I know it used to be there.

Anyways, let us know what Google responds with, as I would like to know for sure as well :)

Hi Chris,

First, let me thank-you once again for your sharp eye. I really see the point that some may think reciprocal link directories are "non-content". I have to say, I was worried that Google might see it that way.

I did contact Google, and they were very polite and responsive. I appreciate that they're willing to answer my questions. Here is what they said about my reciprocal link directory pages:

Hello Mark,

Thank you for your email. After reviewing
your site , I can confirm that this site
currently complies with AdSense policies.

Please note that AdSense participants are also required to adhere to the
webmaster guidelines posted at
http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html .

I am most happy! :p I really do see my reciprocal link directory as a resource to my visitors. But I'd obviously comply with whatever Google determined.

I can't say that all link directories are in compliance... I just don't know. What I do know is that my reciprocal link directory has been a great help in bringing new visitors to my websites.

Thanks!
