Hi everyone,

Two questions.

One, I'm curious if any of you have any recommendations on where to buy key-word lists and do they pay off?

Two, how would you include high dollar key-words into a non-specific city forum? Do you add these key-words to the homepage or content pages? It seems that Google uses the test right below the AdSense code to determine the ads that are shown.

Keep in mind, even if you have "high paying" keywords, for each advertiser paying $10-$20 (or more) per click, there will MANY MANY more only paying 10-20 cents/click. Plus, there will be ALOT more competition for those keywords as well (in otherwords...harder to get traffic).

Your best bet is to get quality content on a subject that interests you. In other words, a site that you will enjoy working on - not just something so you can throw up a site and then forget about it.

With the second option, if you put up enough sites (100+) and keep building, it can pay off, but it is not nearly as enjoyable.

Just my 2 cents :)

Chris,

You are exactly right, I would rather go after the lower paying ones and get a lot more clicks. Focus on a really tight niche and go after the higher paying ones once the site is established.

As I always advise my members, it is a matter of finding 'relative' keywords. What that means, is that it is important to find keywords that both pay a lot, but also have a large number of ad inventory. I have created a video to demonstrate what I am talking about on my site.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that if you run a forum your members actually create the content. So how do you target keywords? General talk forums such as mine don't really have a nich market to target. My delima is finding ways to increase my EPC.

$0.10 a click is not going to get me very far. :(

Have you considered creating threads that are geared towards a particular subject which use certain keywords. What you should be doing, is find the keywords on a particular subject which pay the most, and then creating them around that.

For example, if you writing about 'fish' (just an example!) you may find that salmon pays for than carp, but grey salmon pays more than salmon etc.

You get the idea?

Ahh, excellent idea.

Thank you!

Hi Nolnet,

Some other ideas to get targeted ads:

1) Threads have been mention already - but make sure that the thread name appears in the title for each page.

2) Static Text before and after the forum code should help

3) Using some of Joel's rules in developing the template of your forum

4) Using a keyword in the path of your forum on your server may help
