And I have an MA in Popular Culture. Studied part time with the Open University (or the OU as it is more widely known) in the UK.
It is a great university and you can study for their degree courses anywhere in the world. As far as I know it was the pioneer of legimate distant learning university degrees.

It's amazing how different our backgrounds are! I have a BS in marketing with a minor in biology and and a second minor sociology.
I worked in marketing and decided to focus on online marketing. I have added a web developement certification, web project management certification and I'm a Certified Internet Marketer and Business Strategist.
Does any of this help me with adsense - NO. Joel's book was the best money I ever spent.

But you don't have to have a degree to make money - and you certainly don't have to have a degree to spend it.

i am a college student, aiming for a bachelor of applied sci in food science and technology..
haha...totally not linked to e-commerce and online marketing at all..
i agree joel's ebook is really good..it opened our minds to unstd what is adsense and keywords all about..
but now, i wonder if it is ever relevant since google is beta-testing their adsense ads as 'advertise on this site' .
no more link blending? no more keywords selection? so what is next?
hmmmm..

Grade C in art A level
Grade E in Business Studies A level
All back in 1983 (when people used to get real grades) then I decided to go and get a job as a door-to-door saleman. Then I set up on my own and, in December 2003 was bought out for a 7 figure sum and retired at 39.
I now build web sites to keep me occupied.
I don't think a degree would have helped :)

BA's in English and German
MA in English Literature
Additional post-grad work in blah blah blah
But to echo a sentiment already expressed here ... book larnin' t'tain't necessarily of use when it comes to entrepreneurial and self-reliant ventures.
I had my 20-year high school reunion last year and got reacquainted with the fellow who probably would have been voted "Least Likely to Succeed," had we voted on that, but a few years out of high school, he woke up one morning and decided "It's time to change gears."
He then went from doing minimum wage factory line assembly work to now owning a couple successful car dealerships and a restaurant, and is making some solid strides in real estate investments.
I'm doing fine in life, was 4.0 and voted 'most likely to succeed' and all that, but what my ex-classmate and new friend has accomplished actually now inspires me more than anything else. "What can you do with what you've got?" is the question I now ask myself every day. We've all heard that before, of course, but for some reason it didn't become a concrete notion to me until learning what this fellow did with his past two decades.
And based on what people _expected_ of us as a benchmark, he's far surpassed me, I'd have to say ... and I'm grateful to be able to say that he's my friend and that I'm proud of him, particulary since we lived in completely different worlds way back when.
So if you're reading this thread thinking you have less to work with than anyone else, think again. Perseverance, learning from the risks you took that didn't work, and self-confidence will carry you farther in life than any number of degrees or pedigrees or whatnot.

Millionaire Monkey

Hi everyone, this is my first posting but I couldn't resist.
Some may know Forbes just released the top 400 richest Americans list.
It is quite revealing.
Bill Gates is a dropout.
Warren Buffet #2 does have a degree but in science not investing.
Paul Allen #3 - another drop out
Michael Dell #4 a dropout
Laurence Ellison #5 another dropout
In fact of the top 15 only one who did not inherit, has a degree relevant to their work. He runs Microsoft - in other words he works for a dropout!
Seems to me you'd better enrol in college right away then get the heck out of school and start making billions.
Not one of the top 25 have an MBA.
In my opinion many people are educated way beyone their intelligence.
Even a monkey could be a millionaire.

I have a B.S. accountancy degree.
But I never used what I learned from the course.
I love working on the net than working an accounting related job.
But if time comes that I can't find a way to make any cent on the
net. Maybe I'll force my self to find a J.O.B to feed my family :)

Having a college degree or a masteral degree for that matter
does not necessarily translate to success in making money.
Our educational system prepares us to be employees not
entrepreneurs.
Our success in school is not a barometer to our success
later on in life. I remember having read a book entitled
"What they don't teach you at Harvard University". The
answer to that can be explained in one word: "Experience".
When we were in college, most of the things we learned
where mere theories, not much application. When we
graduate, it is a different world out there and only with
experience can we be more successful not just in making
money but in general also in life.
Don't worry if you didn't finish college for you can still
make a lot of money, just ask Bill Gates!
