I read in a couple of places that forums running adsense dont make a whole lot of money.

a) your visitors, while repeat visitors, are looking for what was posted only. ads normally dont speak to what members are posting. Since they are not looking for anything other than what was posted last, they are more likely to ignore the post entirely.

b) the oc sucks - okay, so what type of product will an advertiser be able to sell based on the content?

My suggestion would be to create a couple of pages of content, with a specific keyword in mind, that explains why the oc sucks. bad acting, unrealistic scripts etc probably wont attract a whole lot of ads.

However, if you were to focus in on keywords such as "models", "acting school" etc, you may attract advertisers. Not many advertisers are selling products taht sell "bad acting" or "unrealistic scripts"

hope that helps

Thanks for the advice.
and your right most visitors to my site are repeat visitors.

Its a small comunity of High-School students to gather and talk, not people looking to buy anything at all online.

The people im looking to hit are those searching for my website and come across a page a single topic that they were searching for.

Im also thinking about implamenting some of the ad positioning this site has done.
Putting the ads directly into the topics, instead of the normal placements on the top of the pages. And also matching colors of the ads to the colors of the site.
My first impression was that they ads should stand out, so you should use bright colors oposite of the site's colors, but it seems i was headed in the wrong direction.

Thanks,
Kyle

That is a good idea. I run a forum at http://www.dxcurrencies.com/forum and although it has a lower eCPM due to it being a forum it still makes me money. Any income is better than no income.

My biggest suggestion would be to have alternate ads as forums typically are harder for Google to place ads in.

I made some changes today.
If you could please critique these new improvements that would be great.

The location is good and the ads do fit in with the general look and feel of the site. that said, based on the content, you will have little control over the types of ads. Its this control that makes a difference. While its difficult to target the highest ad each time, if your site is about widgets, and you're only getting ads about php hosting, well, your visitors are less likely to hit the ads.

Content is king! Create a section with good content, and you will see some increases. Why not create some good solid content, then ask your visitors to comment about it. Of course, the theme of the content should get the visitor interested in clicking an ad.

Something like, the scripts for the OC are poor. Even you could write a better screen play (and then go on about writing a better screen play). This may motivate someone who can write to click on an ad to see what they need to do to get their stuff published.

What about modelling?

There is likely a ton of things you can write about. The key with adsense is a) create content that advertisers are willing to pay for and b) create content that visitors are motivated to want to click on.

Ford Bronco parts, PHP web hosting etc may not give you much of a click through considering your demographic.

Just my 2 cents!
