I've read several times on this forum that http://reciprocal-manager.com is highly recommended. Are there any alternatives that come close and don't require you to drop $147 bucks?

Although it's not a script, I would suggest using the service at http://www.linksmanager.com
I have used their service for several websites over the past couple of years and am quite happy with it. It costs $20 a month, the first month is free, and you can cancel at any time and keep the links that you have added so far.

The thing about Reciprocal Manager that you need to look at is its license. You may pay $147 up front but you pay that one time and your license allows you to put the script on as many sites as you want.
With Links Manager that $147 is just over 7 months of fees for ONE site. By the time you've put up 50 sites that $147 becomes fairly cheap. Frankly I don't know why Kevin sells it for such a low price. If you're looking for a reciprocal link script that just keeps on giving Reciprocal Manager is the one to buy. It has high quality, he keeps upgrading the features, and upgrades are free!

The one I have been using for a while on a few sites, and it's free - www.gotlinks.com. The best part is that you enter 5 different link texts, and 2 different descriptions. So your link is not always the same anchor text/description. It will change (10 different possibilities).
As soon as you have your site in there, you instantly have 2000+ inbound links.

In the past few months, I have been told that these reciperacol links do not work. And will get your site banned.
However from what I read the opposite is true.
How do you find the link partners in the first place?
Does this software do that for you and is it relevent to your niche?
Thanks in advance

Wow...
I forgot how much I paid for Reciprocal Manager...
$147 ... that's a chunk...
But, I've been using Reciprocal Manager for some time now on several different sites...
It's awesome... and I wouldn't be without it.
It truly is one of the few products I highly recommend.

Depending on how detailed you want your set up to be, this free script may do the trick.

Well, I have to take back some of the "benefits" of GotLinks.com
They have now changed it so you manually have to approve each site linking to you. Not a bad thing in and of itself, but a major pain in the behind to go through 2000+ sites and manually approve or deny them...anyways, now on the hunt for another good free link script.

What's wrong with you guys?
Before I joined up there was only one page to this thread and no one had mentioned Duncan's software.
I then did a few other tasks, got my email from the forum for joining, set up my profile and then posted back on the thread. And the thread still only had one page!
All the other people posting form "other parts of the world" may have made similar mistakes, people are busy and the fact is they were all "just trying to help" as it is a free scrpt and they get no bebnefit to themselves by posting.
I thought I would join because I like Joel's writing and information.
But with people like you on the forum it's no wonder new people don't stick around when they're only trying to do the right thing.
And, no I have never had any problems with the script mention above.
The thing is too remeber that is free and may be useful to people who don't want to pay money for a script or aren't looking to build a very "large reciprocal linking" campaign.
There is no good reason for posting such comments when people were trying to help even if it has been posted "too many times".
Maybe for online business owners a bit more professionalism wouldn't go a stray?

people should read the thread before they post
that all were saying..
i read several forums a day
and stuff like this happens all the time
mostly to promote thier site and get backlinks for the SE..
i could be wrong..
but if they took the time to actually READ the post
they would have seen the link was alreay posted and wouldnt have posted it again

I see your point as I haven't posted much on forums lately.
But I still think to give people the the benefit of the doubt, if it happens a second/third time then have a go.
So, lets just shake hands, leave it at that and maybe have a better conversation on another thread.
Cheers, Chris

Perhaps part of the problem is it's very difficult to see there's more than one page of information - I found myself skipping page two just now.
Is there a way to make it more obvious on the forum when the thread spans pages?

I've used this one for years and love its features. You can stick with the free version, but the paid version has awesome features to totally automate the process. Best purchase I've ever made for my sites:
