Hi,
A lot of sites use articles by various authors to use as content on their sites, I would like to know your views on which placement works better, would people with experience here please participate in the poll attached?
I have heard arguments that the ads should be at the bottom of the page so that the user can click on them after reading the article, while above the fold is the general view. I am in the process of tracking this in channels but wanteed some views..
Thanks!

Ashish,
If your article is long enough, I would place ads at the top AND the bottom!
Joel
Ashish,
So far, my best placement is nested in the article at the top, and at the bottom before the resource box. I use the two together.

Hi,
Thanks for your replies, I understand that I can use two together, but I am trying to figure out which end works better especially for articles (the ones that people actually read) rather than the spammy ones that people come to, don't find anything worthwhile and they are forced to click on ads to get out of the site....
I am hesitating to use both is because Google places high paying ads first, so in theory the top box will have higher CPC, while (my) common sense suggests that when people finish reading articles they will look for more information in the ads.
I am ofcourse tracking my positions, but my site is still in its infancy, hence was looking for some answers.
Any pointers are very much appreciated...
Thanks!

Ashish,
You say that Google places the highest paying ads first. Maybe that's because they know something.

This is not related, restlesslegs. When your page calls Adsense script for the first time (during a page load), it serves the best ads. Then when you call it the second time from the same page view, it will serve the best from the rest.
Now if you could conclude that 'after the article' is a better position, you have to use CSS or some other way to load that set of ads first, so that the better ads get shown there.

ebizindia is correct. So if the feedback from other users in the poll & my tests confirm that start of article or end of article is premium accordingly I can do the necessary CSS stuff...and it will help countless other persons to generate more revenue...
;)
Thanks!

Hi,
I haven't yet implemented adsense in CSS, but in theory you can just create a div that has the block in it and then absolute/relative positon it whereever you wish!
This article has 10 CSS invaluable resources: http://www.sitepronews.com/archives/2005/july/20.html

I would suggest creating various channels and then testing the various positions in your article. The response will be different for every site. I have found that two ad blocks produce a good amount of revenue from ads, but which one works best for me will be different than which one works best for you.
I would make the following channels:
articlestop
articlesmiddle1
articlesmiddle2
articlesbottom
You could have more "articlesmiddle#" if your articles are super long. Then test each position for a week at a time, and then test combinations. After about a month or two you will find the one that works the best for your site.

I've tested adsense placement in articles pretty thoroughly and I find that top left just below the article title, sandwiched beside the opening paragraph works wonderfully.
See this page for an example: Click here (http://www.profitgazette.com/archive/reality-check-a-straightforward-guide-to-keywords-and-search-engine-optimization-seo.php)
Here is the CSS code I used to achieve this placement:
<div style="float: left; margin: 10px 0px 0px 0px; border-left: 10px solid white; position: relative">Drop AdSense code in here</div>
Hope that is helpful to you.
Cheers,
Brendon

So let me understand this:
Can I integrate my AdSense code into my stylesheet? That way I would not have to insert it into every page? Do I just create a div and add the code in the div?

Forced? How do their Back button, Close button, and address bar get disabled?

Hi. Good post this, Ashish.
I have experimented with various positions and found that, if I put ads at the bottom, it waters down my click values due to G putting the top paid ads first, ie, at the top.
Although tests are ongoing, as they should always be as the goal posts are always moving, my sites in the sig gets the best click-rates amongst the 13 similar ones that I have.
Part of my 'niche' research is to check the ad click bids for positions 1, 5 and 10. Some drop dramatically after the first three or four bids.

Where can one see the various bids on key words?
I've tested adsense placement in articles pretty thoroughly and I find that top left just below the article title, sandwiched beside the opening paragraph works wonderfully.
I've also started to use this in the articles on my site.
Plus I've added a 468x15 link unit on the top of the page.
I'm going to track how this will affect the CTR.
