View Full Version : Brilliant Idea #2 - For ANY Forums with Adsense

Hey All-

In the spirit of sharing brilliant ideas, here is another.

http://www.googlecommunity.com/about6450.html

At this site, the owner has built the Google ads into each an every thread-- if you'll notice, the ads appear at the bottom of the page in a box that looks nearly identical to a thread POST.

Seems VERY likely, given that, to get more than a glance.

I don't have any forums of my own, otherwise I'd implement this ASAP. ;-)

Excellent, atm . I have a forum with about a 1000 impressions a day but my CTR was stuck to 0.0...0% so i'll give this a shot, and post how it looks soon.

I have added it to my forum: http://www.teenagewriters.com , you can see it at the bottom of any post.

Eiso, why did you choose to stay with blue links instead of matching the red titles of your forum?

I think putting the adsense on the top of the forum with a big banner just like the googlecommunity one is not a good idea, just like me I will skip to the first post without even had a glance at the ads.

Putting a "thin" adsense code block in between each post should have some positive result in the case the ads blend in just like Joel teach us to.

Interesting. Remember that disclosing your CTR is against the Adsense TOS.

Copied and pasted from Google's TOS:

Prohibited Uses. You shall not, and shall not authorize or encourage any third party to: (i) directly or indirectly generate queries, impressions of or clicks on any Search Results, Links and/or Ad(s) through any automated, deceptive, fraudulent or other invalid means, including but not limited to through repeated manual clicks, the use of robots or other automated query tools and/or computer generated search requests, and/or the unauthorized use of other search engine optimization services and/or software; (ii) edit, modify, filter or change the order of the information contained in any Ad, Link, Ad Unit, or Search Result, or remove, obscure or minimize any Ad, Link, Ad Unit, or Search Result in any way; (iii) frame, minimize, remove or otherwise inhibit the full and complete display of any Web page accessed by an end user after clicking on any part of an Ad ("Advertiser Page") or any Google-hosted Web page that contains Ads and/or Search Results ("Search Results Page"); (iv) redirect an end user away from any Advertiser Page or Search Results Page, provide a version of the Advertiser Page or Search Results Page that is different from the page an end user would access by going directly to the Advertiser Page or the applicable Search Results Page, intersperse any content between the Ad and the Advertiser Page or between the page containing the Search Box and the Search Results Page, otherwise provide anything other than a direct link from an Ad to an Advertiser Page or from the page containing the Search Box to the Search Results Page; (v) display any Ad(s) or Link(s) on any error page, on any registration or "thank you" page (e.g., a page that thanks a user after he/she has registered with the applicable Web site), on any chat page, in any email, or on any Web page or any Web site that contains any pornographic, hate-related, violent, or illegal content; ......

Personally I would be wary of posting adsense on any forum page- as one cannot control the posts 24 hours a day unless posts are reviewed before being submitted?
However I imagine the owner of this forum and others have looked into this and it must be acceptable?

Yaw, I would be too.

But then again, there are a bajillion forums out there with adsense-- I've never heard of a forum getting banned.

Hrmm-- maybe I'll be malicious and start posting threads that say "HEY CLICK ON THE ADZ! PLEASE!". :D

There are lots of forums out there (some very prominent with way more members than this) with adsense on. I suspect the comment on 'chat pages' refers to exactly that - live chat pages. A forum is slightly different in that respect e.g. I'm replying to your post several hours later not in real time like a chat room. The difference although slight I feel is enough, particularly that forum's have a moderator, most live chat rooms don't, and I suspect there in lies the difference

(v) display any Ad(s) or Link(s) on any error page, on any registration or "thank you" page (e.g., a page that thanks a user after he/she has registered with the applicable Web site), on any chat page, in any email, or on any Web page or any Web site that contains any pornographic, hate-related, violent, or illegal content; ......
Is a 'chat page' a forum?

IMO Chat Rooms and Forums are two different things.

I wonder whay Google's opinion is on the matter.

Furthermore... there are adsense ads here right in this very forum. I heard that some guy named Joel is pretty cluey with the adsense stuff so perhaps ask him if its kosher or not ;)
I hate to burst your bubble but I don't believe you can use the word "google" on a domain name unless you're affiliated with the company. I think the word "adsense" is probably OK since "adsense" is referring to a "form of advertising" but the words "google", "ebay", "amazon", etc. are trademarks.
I think you'll find that 'AdSense' is a trademark too.
