Hi All. Am wondering how many here have found those free .info names to have made just as many $$ with adsense as the .com names? Would really appreciate hearing of your experience. Thanks! :)

A domain name is a domain name.

.info and .com are the same.

Search engine will index them anyway as long as it's open & seenable on the Internet.

if you plan to make a lot of sites - gee it 'll be interesting to know where you can get domain names .info for free. Is it really possible ? do you have an url.

I will use cash Page Builder to make a lot of sites.

Thanks - Benoit from Belgium

I don't know about FREE .info names, but you can register them just like any other domain name. I would have to believe that the search engines give more weight to .com domains, but I use some .info names myself.

I've been using Namecheap.com for all of my .info sites. They're cheap at $2.88/year and they come with free whoisguard. Other registrars charge as much as $10 bucks for it.

Their control panel allows you to bulk manage your domains easily. But the reason I like them best is their customer service is very responsive.

There is a cheaper service out there and I've used them. I rather not name it here because I don't want to give them any added publicity, but the term "cheaper" applies to their customer service as well. Suffice to say, I'd rather stick a needle in my eye than choose to ever use them again.

That's my opinion but you're welcome to it.

One way to think of it is this - search engines goal is to index information - so if the domain ends in .cc, .info, .tv, or something else, but the site has good, solid content, it is in their best interest to index it.

Of course, from a human perspective, I'd recommend a .com, as some people will add the .com without thinking - and you could be sending some traffic away from your site!

I have to agree 100%. I haven't heard of any block on specific extensions, so I'm sure any domain is indexable, and .com is a bonus just for the visitors to remember.

I use www.1and1.com (http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=8006097) (Joel, I put my affiliate link in here. If this is against the rules please change it.) as my web host and when I originally registered with them they gave away 25 free .info domain names with registration. These names are free for the first year and then you pay $5.99/year (I think) for them.

As a result I've ended up with a ton of free domain names that I am not using because I haven't got time to develop them.

I think that might have happened to the original poster in this thread.

Hope this answers some people's questions.

Hi there

namecheap.com only gives one free privacy reg. If you have more than one site they charge $2.88 each

Registerfly.com charges $1.99 for a .info + 99cents for the privacy reg.

The folks that use these are the portal site builders that churn them out at 4 or 5 per day. For them, the .info does not matter. These people seem to be raking in $10,000+ on AdSense alone.

For 'proper' sites, I'd say that a .com gives the site an extra standing in the viewer's eyes. Kinda like free hosting against paid.

Surely, the saving of $6 per annum for not getting a .com is not worth it.

Joel even changed his name to COMM and he knows what he's doing!!

The .infos were given for free last year. But the free ride's over because it's
cost a lot of money for the registrars and the .info registry itself.

Subsequent to my last posting in this thread I have been going through all the free .info domain names that I registered last year and that will expire at the end of this year.

I have no idea how this happened (if anybody can tell me then please do) but one of the domain names (http://www.guyworldtour.info/) now has a page rank of 4. This domain is a single page which points to the new web site.

Anybody know how this page can get such a ranking?

Anyway that's not really the question. My dilemma is this: I was goingn to let the domain expire at the end of the year. Is this a good idea? Considering that it has a PR of 4 and will cost me $6 to reregister for another year is there anyway that I can use it to my benefit? If so, how?

Any help much appreciated!
Thanks!

(BTW some of the other domain names that I'm going to allow to expire also have PR's but they are lower like 1,2, and 3.)
