I was online 25 years ago! I owned a TRS-80 model I computer with a 300 baud modem. It was the kind of modem where you had to take the phone receiver and put it on the modem in order to connect. I remember dialing in to a text only service to play games and download files. Ah, those were the days...

When I went online for the first time in 1994, I thought the internet was highly over rated as it was slow and I couldn't find much information at all.
It was probably a couple of years before I even went back. Whoa!

Today, I have cable and my life all but revolves around the internet. And, I find way more information than I am usually looking for! ;)

Its been around 10 years for me. I recall dialing into BBS'es for years with my dinosaur computers to play Tradewars 2002. Some BBS'es started experimenting with dialup internet access for BBS users (at 14.4 speeds - no fun!).

I started on the Internet in 1989 and made my first web site in 1993. But I first started online by calling BBSes with an Atari 800 - the 300 BPS modem plugged into the computer's joystick port.

I started using a BBS in 1988, but I first went on the internet in 1993. Back then I could only get a dialin account which gave me a unix prompt. I had no idea what to do with it. I had heard about 'the web' but couldn't find how to access it.

Later, in 1994, I got a CompuServe account so I could e-mail and surf from home. Before that I only had e-mail at work, and even though I worked for a company with 100.000+ employees, we could only e-mail internally.

I built my first homepage as we called it then, in 1995, still on CompuServe, and in 1998 I opened an account with a proper internet provider in The Netherlands (where I live) which included room for a real website. It was dedicated to travel stories and is still online today ( http://www.futura.demon.nl ).

Since 2000 I have cable, which makes online life a dream. I started creating more sites and now have around 30 sites (see also http://www.erikgeurts.nl ). I'm also working on a few other projects that will hopefully result in real online businesses.

I was online 25 years ago!

Me too. I remember dialing into local BBS's with my Vic-20 and 300 baud modem. You could read faster than the text was being displayed.

Now I get annoyed when it takes a couple of extra seconds for a web page to load

I've been around awhile also...

I've been attempting to do business online since late 1995.

Not very long in the big scheme of things. But sometimes it still feels like forever.

I'm looking forward to the next 10 years online... how Exciting that will be!

I first read this and thought -- 10 years? Then I actually did the math.

Twenty-one years. yeesh. I started in 1984 (yep, 300 baud modem -- you could actually read messages as you were downloading them)...

time flies...

Went online in 1996, I joined CompuServe and later became a SysOp/WizOp for many popular forums i.e. INETNEW, INETPUB, NETSCAPE, INETSHARE, INETFUN, OURWORLD, EMAILCOMM, and a few to list. I also helped out in the official CompuServe Online help chat.

Anyone remember/used these forums?

I still have an active account with them (100761,XXXX) but I've been using them less and less, quit the SysOp/WizOp roles and went with broadband. Don't want to lose my nice, low-numbered CompuServe account. :D

Ahhh thoses old days...

I've been online since 1984. I've been on the Internet since 1996.

I started out with a Commodore 64 and a 300 baud modem.

In 1988 I setup a Wildcat BBS (Bulletin Board System) [ Single user internet :) ]. I later set up a wide area network message network called AFN.

Wow, this post is making me feel old! :D

I got my first computer in 1993 and bought a modem and fitted it soon afterwards.
I always felt the web had huge potential but I have only recently begun to use it as a way to make money for myself.
I currently have a couple of sites which carry adsense and affiliate links and I also have four adult toys sites which one does OK and the others are just about to launch.
I am looking long term to quit my stressfull life as a college lecturer working 80 hours per week and living from income from my sites. I have a hell of a long way to go yet!

*****I was pretty late online, only early 2000 after the Y2K Bug Scare
was over. On the year 2000, my old computer, a 486 DX-60 machine
with Windows 3.1 OS will no longer run some of the programs thus I
bought a new (during that time) Pentium III with 56K dial-up modem
and that is when I became fascinated with the internet.*****

I first worked on room size computer - racks floor to ceiling of vacuum tubes. First personal terminal was like climbing into a massive arcade game. In the past year I have gotten hooked on internet, business, marketing, I'm the sucker who is buying all your books, software, and CDs. Oldie but Newbie.
Sincere Thanks to everyone!

since 1995 via bbs. I didnt get interested in making money on the Internet until 2003 and not seriously until 2004. So I am still a newbie sort of and have lots to learn about Internet and affiliate marketing or atleast how to maximize my income from them all and how to get more of my visitors interested in my advertisements.
