Free page rank utility checker (as usual this is NOT an affiliate link merely a useful tool for your perusal) - looks okay but not checked it's acuuracy on any big PR's as sadly I don't have any as yet.

I browse the web using FireFox, for which a plugin is available that displays PR in the status bar of the browser.

Alternatively for IE use the google toolbar it shows the PR of the page also.

Agreed but if you're logging in from work (say from me who works for the the UK police department (not at this time of night obviously!) the killjoy IT department stop both of these routes DEAD! Guess many other users logging on during the day from work are also the same. G's toolbar option is killed off at source by our IT department (anything that might run an active script etc...)
