Well, I had never thought I would be considering selling one of my domain names... but because of some restructuring, and a new direction I'm taking in my production capacity... I no longer have direct need for probably my best domain name.

So, I'm thinking of selling it using one of the services available... but which service? Who gets the most viewers? Who gets the most results? Who gets the most money? Inquiring minds want to know...

I will certainly appreciate anybody on the forum with knowledge and experience in dealing with selling domain names to please join this thread and share your thoughts.

Also, any ideas on marketing the name myself to some of my competition. Probably not a good choice???

I have no idea where to begin... and I'm not even positive I want to let go of this name... but I am very open to discussing it - right here... on adsensechat.com ;)

Are you selling the nice website and content too, or only the domain?

How much do you want for it as far as minimum prices go?

I am not good on selling domains since I am not a domain seller myself but you might try any one of the 3 large domain forums out there.

It may even sell at adsensechat without going to the larger and more specialized domain forums. I am a new member but already see some members here who I believe both buy and sell domains so you could get a buyer by posting it for sale here (if that is permitted by the rules)?

Traffic stats (or better yet a link to your stats) and an expected price or price range would be real good too as some buyers do not make blind offers. I have been known to buy a number of domains in the past, perhaps too many ;) as my portfolio is getting too big.

Hi Trader,

Thanks for your response. You ask a very good question... I should have been more specific.

First off, thanks for the nice comments about my website...

I am only interested in selling the URL.

We will still be marketing our poster designs through our original domain. We have developed good search engine ranking, and feel this is the domain we should continue to grow into the future.

The site in discussion was originally set-up to handle our affiliate program. Since we are restructuring our production, we will no longer be offering our affiliate program - so I have no real need for this domain.

I know that there are several LARGE players in the poster field. I know they are aware of our little family poster business because of our excellent search engine ranking. I thought that they might be interested in buying the URL.

I do know that I'm in no hurry to sell the URL, and I'd only be willing to part with it for a very nice price. That's why I'm asking for the members help to steer me to a good source to get the job done.

Thanks again for your excellent questions,

Mark,

Why do you want to sell it though? It looks like you have goot traffic for this site (I checked your Alexa ranking), and it looks like you have AdSense on it? Wouldn't it be good to just hold on to it, and maybe add some new content (best 10 uses for posters, how to use posters to boost the morale of your workers, etc. I am not in the field, but I am pretty sure you could come up wiht lots of content for that site)?

Because you have good traffic, you could redirect that traffic to your current site, and also increase your adsense earnings.

Just my 2 cents: good, extablished sites are valuable these days, and you could use this site for your own benefit.

There are sites that sell domains, sites that discuss domains, and all sorts of informal networks. However, I should caution that the trend in domains is very much toward sales price based on a multiple of current monthly earnings vs. inhertent potential in the domain, except for high-quality (single word, generally .COM) domains.

If you are interested in resource sites -- which I believe it is OK to list here per rules because they do not compete with AdSenseChat and not affiliates --the following are --

http://www.DNJournal.com (includes domain sales prices each week)
http://www.DomainState.com (domain discussion and appraisal, sales)
http://www.DNForum.com (domain discussion and appraisal, sales)
http://www.NamePros.com (domain discussion and appraisal, sales)
http://www.Sedo.com (domain listing and sales)

None of these sites will substitute for hard work if you want to get top dollar from an end-user in the field, but they may be helpful.

It's hard to know what you hope to achieve by selling it, Mark. Do you really want to sell it to your competition? And is it a name that will fetch thousands of dollars?

I tend to be more of a slow earner than a big bang guy. I've had a number of offers to buy some of my sites and I've always turned them down (in fact, I just one in today that I need to go respond to). Even whole sites often tend to elicit offers of maybe 3K. At 5 bucks a day for a site...that's two years of income. But...maybe you can pull more per day. And have it coming in long into the future.

I think Adriana's idea is an excellent one. Why not make it more informational? Put some good content on there and use it to make money with Adsense and to continue to feed traffic to your main site. Use a big Adsense block woven into your articles. Move the Adlinks thing down where it can be seen as part of the page content. Test and find out what gets the most response.

It's been a long time since I've sold a domain name...and I've never done well with it. In fact, I have one for sale now, and I didn't bother to do anything but put a splash screen on the domain itself. Haven't even bothered with putting it on a site.

I would think that it would be a somewhat rare thing for an inexperienced name seller to get an amount he'd be truly satisfied with for letting it go...especially when he knew it had the potential to be quietly making money with it long term.

Just some random ramblings for you.

Since the name is not really a natural typein name I think Mark will need to publish his server stats to attract any serious buyers, especially since the website itself is not included. In fact, giving a valid domain appraisal without the stats would be difficult.

One issue I must raise is that IMO posters affiliate programs (referring to the 3 major players only) do not work well, either due to questionable reporting of hits and clicks, combined with low income per sale. My experience selling posters has not been good :(
