View Full Version : Where are these weird ads coming from?

I've posted twice on my new blog on Joel's site, WorldVillage.com and the ads are just plain weird. I'm posting on "The Workplace", and my first two posts were about workplace communication. The Google Ads on the first post were ALL about Funny T-shirts! The second one, just posted today, has ads about blogging, real estate, word games at Pogo, and business franchise guides. Obviously I'm getting no clicks because folks who are interested in The Workplace probably don't want these things.

Would somebody mind taking a look at my blog at WorldVillage.com and taking a guess at what I might be doing wrong? I've looked at some of the other blogs on the site and they seem to be making sense. Thanks!

Helen,

I am seeing ads for business letters, stay at home moms and small business legal help.. looks like it is targeting better.. Sometimes it just takes a little time :-)

Just hold ctrl and hit refresh two or three times and it will come up correct. The media bot will crawl it quick.

Post the pages xml to this site http://www.feedshot.com and google blogs will spider it....Thats it, g will come daily : )

Curious... why are you saying to hit ctrl when you do a refresh? How is that different from just hitting Refresh?

Holding cntrl while hitting F5 or refresh clears the cache of the page you are on. So it will then pull the correct ad unit. Normally anyway.

I use both Yahoo YPN ads and Adsense and adsense is much better targeted right now but still requires a quick refresh to make sure the text right around the ad is correct. YPN is not yet perfect but getting there.

Another tip is to use the adsense targeting tags in your code. Here it is: <!-- google_ad_section_start --> You targeted copy <!-- google_ad_section_end-->You will find the ad targets the text from all over inclusding the url but if you use this tage at the beggining of your html copy and end it where the text ends then your ads will be GR8

Also, another example if your url is hosting.mysite.com and you put landscaping articles on the page it will show hosting ads until the bot arrives. Unless of course you use the custom start and end tags. only use it once. You can also include a tage to tell g what text not to read for the ads to target on. I dont have that in front of me so simply log into your adsense account and go to tips...

Just things to think about...Be sure to use strong anchor words around the ads and you will quickly get the targeted ad units you want.

Good luck!!

I often find that the ads I see on my screen when I am at home and the ads I see on other PC's are very different.

I know that google uses cookies to track things, and wonder if the cookie loaded in your browser affects the ads displayed on your PC.
