View Full Version : 500+ inbound links, PR 0

My site has been in operation for a little over two months. Over that period of time, I've managed to get over 500 inbound links (not all to my homepage, but to specific articles in the site). My site still has a page rank of 0.
I would think 500+ inbound links would be enough to get a PR greater than zero, but apparently Google doesn't think so.
As this is my first "public" site (I had worked on company intranets before), I'm a little green in these matters and I am seeking the expertise of others. Any idea when can I expect to get a PR greater than zero?
Thanks,
Ensode
ps. I found the inbound links by searching on "linkdomain:ensode.net" on Yahoo, unfortunately, AFAIK, Google can only show links to the home page, not to specific pages within a domain.

Hi Ensode,
I believe what you are experiencing is the result of the Google Sandbox.
Here are a couple of threads that might explain the situation:
What is the Google Sandbox?? (http://www.adsensechat.com/showthread.php?t=561)
Google Sandbox (http://www.adsensechat.com/showthread.php?t=544)
I hope this gives you some insight...

I had seen that thread (and as a matter of fact posted to it), but I had missed Luke's excellent explanation.
In any case, my site is not exhibiting all of the simptoms Luke mentioned, all the pages are indexed, and shows up in the first page of results for a couple of keywords, still it has a PR of 0, I can only assume it will get even better placement within Google search results when (if) it reaches a higher PR.

Google updates page rank every 3-4 months. The next update is due soon. Nobody knows exactly when. You will get your page rank then.

With all the recent google PR updates I would dare say that you will find your website PR has gone up in the last two or three days - three of my sites went from 0 to 3 over the last 2 or 3 days.

Wait for another month or two for Google to update your PR.
On the next update, your site PR might go up with 500 inbound
links on it. Make sure that the inbound links are "quality links",
those that are related to the theme of your site. If most of
those 500 inbound links are not related to your site your
PR would still be low.
Just a rough estimate, if those 500 inbound links are PR 1 sites,
your PR on the next update would be PR 3. But even if you
only have one inbound link, but that site is a PR 5 site, your
PR would be PR 3!
Think about it, which is worth pursuing, 500 PR 1 sites that can
give you a PR 3 or just 1 PR 5 site that can still give you PR 3?
It is a no brainer. Use your time chasing those high PR sites.

Looks like google is updating PRs, I've been seeing different results on the Google toolbar when I go to my site. Some times it is the good old PR 0, others is PR 5.
I assume the site's new PR is 5, but, just like adsense, Google has different datacenters, and the new PR hasn't spread to all of them. Just a theory, but I think that would explain the difference in PR reported in the toolbar.
There are a couple of PR 7 sites linking to specific articles in my site.

Good that your site is now a PR 5. But you could still do
better. If you got 2 PR 7 sites linking to your site, you only
need another 8 PR 7 sites to make your site a PR 7 site.
When you have a PR 7 site, people will come to you asking
for a link exchange but you should not do if for free. You
should let those people pay for you to link to them.
If you just charge $150 per month for every site for a total
of 25 links, that would be $3,750 monthly income on top
of the adsense income you make.
Isn't that better than Google Adsense?
