one quick tip is (thanks eli!) log into your adsense account then in ad setup go to competitor ad filter and paste in this list
http://www.digeratimarketing.co.uk/extra/adfilter.txt that will get rid of a bunch of the people most likely to get your adsense smart priced..

AFAIK smartpricing kicks in IF you have poor traffic that doesn't convert for the advertiser, NOT on the ads showing.

What defines poor traffic, though? Consider sites involved in arbitrage...which tend to be low paying to begin with. What is the "conversion" that can be tracked on these sites? I mean, all these guys want is for the visitor to come to their site and click one of THEIR ads. How do you measure that as a conversion? You can't, thus there is nothing to track which means you could be seen as poor traffic. And as you state, poor traffic is what gets you smart priced.

But you're allowed only 200 so if you already have some, you can't add the whole list.

Well, the chances that seoidiots or anyone else's ad filter list contains sites that show up on MY site are not too high. That is because of differences in content. So, I see what ads are showing up and filter those specifically. It's more work, but the payoff is much greater.

Hello all, I'm a newbie here on this forum, but certainly not to adsense! One of the best ways to avoid being smart priced is to have 3 essential links on every page of your site: (and I employ nofollow tags on these links so as not to bleed PR to non "money" pages)
1: privacy policy 2: terms of service 3: contact us Google will smart-price you if you don't have these pages on your site. I think the theory is that every legitimate site should have these pages (google actually states this) Of course there are other things too like time spent on the page, ect. One trick I use is to have a fly-in offer they have to dismiss, that makes them stay a few seconds longer.. I have lots of other "tricks" I use to make the most $$$, I bought Joel Comm's "adsense code" book and many others to learn these things, and it has paid off big time. (Thanks, Joe! ) Knowledge + action = $$$ (my version of: traffic + CTR = $$$) -RonMo Last edited by ronmojohny; 05-06-2007 at 02:09 PM. |

well, thank you for this last tip, I don't know if I have been smartpriced all my life, but I almost never have a privacy policy or terms of use page, but I almost always have a contact page with a form in it, yes.

Most of my site are php, which is nice since it allows me to save time in common features. I'd never heard of the need for these pages, but I believe I can make a template for each, then include it with a variable that would personalize it for that site. For instance the Privacy policy would only need the site anem changed for each site. Style sheets can then handle the layout differences.
