A bed bug is a type of insect which does not have wings, and it feeds on the blood of warm-blooded animals especially human beings. All bed bugs do not have the same color, but they have dark reddish after they feed on the blood of a person. The specific places where bed bugs are found include sofas, beds and other soft furnishings. They prefer a dark environment so they will mostly attack a person at night when the lights are switched off. The host is attacked when he or she is asleep. Bed bugs have become a major concern in public and private sheltering areas. You need to get rid of bed bugs whenever you notice that they are in your home. Some of the ways of getting rid of bed bugs are discussed below.
All the clutter should be removed from the infested room. High chances are that you will find some bed bugs in the items found in a room infested with bed bugs. Remove all the personal items including blankets, electronics, and toys from the room. Bed linen and infested garments should also be removed from the room. Garments removed from the room should be cleaned using very hot water to get rid of any bed bugs or bed bugs’ eggs. A lot of care must be taken during the removal of the items to avoid transferring the bed bugs to other rooms.
Dresser drawers and bed frames should be dismantled. Bed bugs use cracks on different pieces of furniture as their hiding place. Dismantling the bed frames and dresser drawers will expose the hiding places for the bed bugs. An insecticide or very hot water should be used to kill any bed bugs in the hiding places. The frames and drawers need to be thoroughly cleaned to ensure that no bed bugs are left. Bed fabrics should be removed and cleaned. Covering the mattress can ensure that bed bugs do not enter or exit from the mattress. The dresser drawers should be pulled away from the walls to expose any bed bugs.
Clean the infested area. A brush whose bristles are stiff should be used when cleaning. When such a brush is used, all the bed bugs’ eggs will be dislodged. A vacuum cleaner should be used during the cleaning especially on the cracks and crevices of the furniture. A vacuum cleaner removes all the particles in the crevices and cracks, and hence an insecticide will be effectively sprayed on those areas. A good number of bed bugs in the room will be removed by the vacuum cleaner.
You need to spray the room and furniture using an insecticide. Any bed bugs left in the room or furniture will be killed by the insecticide. Use insecticides which are in liquid form. When removing bed bugs from your home, you need to follow the steps explained above.
